PAA Symposium, Rarotonga 2010 : Pacific Art in the 21st century: Museums, New Global Communities, and Future Trends

The Pacific Art’s Association (PAA) 10th International Symposium was held in Rarotonga, Cook Islands from August 9-11, 2010. They had a blog up before the Symposium but for some reason all the posts have been deleted:  http://cook2010.blogspot.com/.

The theme of the Symposium was Pacific Art in the 21st century: Museums, New Global Communities, and Future Trends. The sessions looked interesting from “The emerging  role of museum websites and other web entities”  to “Representing Pacific Art and Cultures”  and “Contemporary Work by Pacific Artists”, which included presentations by Jenny Fraser – The Other APT, Lingikoni Vaka’uta – Issues and Challenges of Island Based Artists and Dan Taulapapa McMullin – The Myth of the Contemporary and the Myth of the Traditional.

The programme from the Symposium can be viewed from PAA’s website here.

South Auckland Fijian based curator/artist Ema Tavola and Darwin based Pacific Island performance group, Sunameke have uploaded onto Flickr photos from the Symposium.
